Stateless persons, or people who were not granted a nationality at birth, who have at least one parent who is a Canadian citizen can file Form CIT 0497 to apply for citizenship.
Because of an act of legislation passed in Canada in 2009, the possibility of stateless children of Canadian citizens has become possible.
Form CIT 0497, Application for Grant of Citizenship for Stateless Persons Born to a Canadian Parent (Subsection 5(5)), was created to allow such people to apply for Canadian citizenship.
